Dr. Konstantin Frank Sparkling Célèbre (n/v) is a sparkling Finger Lakes AVA riesling made with estate-grown grapes from the shale-dominant Keuka Vineyard. Grapes were hand-picked and only the gentle first pressing was used in this cuvee. The sparkler was made in the traditional champagne method, wherein the secondary fermentation that produces fine bubbles takes place in each individual bottle. It is cremant in style, that is, slightly sweet, with notes of apple, honey and spice.

Meaghan Frank, the 4th generation of the Frank family at the helm of this great American winery, says, “We’ve been making the Célèbre Sparkling Riesling for nearly 30 years now, it was the brainchild of my grandfather Willy Frank and has become our most popular sparkling wine in our lineup. We couldn’t be more thrilled about winning the ‘Best of Show’ from the prestigious Atlantic Seaboard Wine Competition.”

Though labeled a non-vintage, all the juice for this particular bottling came from the 2016 vintage. Dr. Frank’s Sparkling Winemaker Eric Bauman gives more background on the winner: “The 2016 vintage was one of the hottest, sunniest, and driest we can remember, making this release of Célèbre particularly special. The grapes enjoyed a long growing season allowing them to develop with greater concentration. The Célèbre combines exactly what we do best, sparkling + Riesling here in the Finger Lakes.”

2019 ASWA Gold Medal Bordeaux-Style Red Blends

ASWA award winner Jefferson2016 Meritage by Jefferson Vineyards, VA A classic blend using all five Bordeaux varietals: 55% petit verdot, 25% merlot, 10% cabernet sauvignon, 7% cabernet franc, 3% malbec, notable for the major share being petit verdot. Good acidity and tannin yet delicate with red fruit, spice notes and a hint of violet on the palate.


2019 ASWA Gold Medal Viognier

ASWA award winner Jones Von Drehle2018 Viognier by Jones von Drehle Vineyards & Winery, NC Yadkin Valley. Three different clones of viognier were used in this 100% viognier wine. Ripe apricot and peach aromas are echoed on the palate, with intriguing notes of honeysuckle intertwined.


2019 ASWA Gold Medal Other Red Hybrid/NA Varietals

ASWA winner Shelburne Marquette2017 Marquette by Shelburne Vineyard, LLC, VT Full-bodied and bone dry, this 100% marquette was aged on the lees for 8 months.

Cherry, baking spices, vanilla and a touch of oak blend seamlessly in this rich, ripe wine.

2019 ASWA Gold Medal Chambourcin

ASWA winner Port of Leonardtown Chambourcin2017 Chambourcin by Port of Leonardtown Winery, MD.

Juicy, jammy berry flavors dominate in this chambourcin from grapes grown in southern MD. The warm temps in the region yield less acidic, riper fruit. 5% Merlot rounds out the blend.  1.5% rs. Low alc at 12%.

2019 ASWA Gold Medal Blush/Rose Vinifera

ASWA winner Jones von Drehle Winery2018 Rosa Dia by Jones von Drehle Vineyards & Winery, NC.  From North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley, this 100% grenache is crisp with fresh berry flavor and quite dry in the Provencal style. Floral notes on the nose enhance the complexity.


2019 ASWA Gold Medal Cabernet Franc

ASWA award winner Winery at Bull Run2018 Cabernet Franc by The Winery at Bull Run, VA. 100% cabernet franc from estate vineyards at Rock Mill, Stoney Brook, Willowcroft and Silver Creek.

Fermented in open tanks, punched down twice daily for 12–14 days then pressed off the skins, this wine was aged for 9 months in 80% neutral/20% new American oak. Spice, smoke and cherry define this complex and deeply flavored wine.


2019 ASWA Gold Medal Blush/Rose Vinifera

ASWA awrd winner Slater Run Rose2018 Rosé by Slater Run Vineyards, VA – This dry rosé will please both red and white wine drinkers with notes of fresh raspberry and rich strawberry flavors.

Pale in color yet rich in flavor. Made with 75% cabernet franc, 15% cabernet sauvignon, and 10% merlot.

2019 ASWA Gold Medal Blush/Rose Vinifera

ASWA award winner Mount Nittany2018 Linden Vale Rose’ by Mount Nittany Vineyard & Winery, PA Shade Mountain Vineyard – This dry rose is made of 60% cabernet franc and 40% syrah grown in central Pennsylvania.

Ripe strawberry notes tease the palate, with highlights of cherry, watermelon and soft rose. Crisp and light-bodied, clean.
