Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association Wine Competition
2022 Wine Competition was held August 13-14, 2022
We host an awards ceremony on Capitol Hill every year after the completion of the competition under the auspices of the Congressional Wine Caucus. The perpetual Jefferson Loving Cup, designed by Tiffany in sterling silver, is engraved with the winning winery’s name and presented to the Best of Show entrant.
Winning wines are then showcased at the Unified Wine and Grape Symposium in Sacramento, CA, the leading wine industry convention typically drawing 15,000 attendees. The wines generally receive coverage on several west coast radio programs while ASWA representatives are in California, and a seminar and tasting at UC Davis is a regular part of our program. Opportunities for increased exposure continue throughout the year.
2022 Wine Competition Best of Show
ASWA held its 16th Annual Wine Competition August 13 and 14, 2022 at the Marriott Tysons Corner, VA. Sixteen judges scored 397 wines made in the eastern US. This year’s Best of Show wine, 2019 Blanc de Noirs by Cross Keys Vineyards & Estate, VA, was selected from twenty-four Best of Category Winners.
Per Cross Keys Vineyards, “This was a traditional method sparkling wine made from 100% Pinot Noir. The grapes were picked at the precise moment of balance between acid and sugar to allow for the traditional method. The fruit was picked very early in the morning before the heat of the August sun and rushed to the winery to be cooled and pressed as quickly as possible. On the nose the wine exhibits passionfruit, raspberry and almonds backed by notes of toasty gingerbread. The wine is lively with acidity, bursting with candied lemon and fresh apple, but balanced on the finish with sweet peach flavors and a richness gained from 18 months en tirage.” Obviously our esteemed panel of judges agreed with this description of the wine. (Suggested retail price of the wine is $38.)
